The 2020 installment of the NHL Stadium Series soared to new heights as the Colorado Avalanche hosted the L.A. Kings at the iconic U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. This marked the second time an NHL game has been played outdoors at a U.S. service academy. Similar to the branding approach for the 2018 event, the distinguishable USAF graduating class plaques served as the framework for the mark. Within the plaque, a heroically stylized F-22 raptor sets the tone, speeding past the famous Cadet Chapel. A sleek riveted border was added for a sheet metal aesthetic to capture the Academy from a textural standpoint with the typography serving as a nod to bold, classic tail wing codes seen on the side of Air Force jets. There was clearly no shortage of visual inspiration for this once in a lifetime event. With the backdrop of the rocky mountains (as well as an F-16 Thunderbird on the field) the two teams battled til the very end, making it one of the most memorable outdoor games to date.
